Starting this July, Swissport will be offering airport ground services at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The Texas airport adds to Swissport’s dense US network of 44 airports in 25 states. Austin is Swissport's first opening of a new US airport location in six years, underlining its growth ambitions as the industry recovers from the pandemic.
Swissport and JetBlue have signed a five-year agreement that includes ramp handling for all of JetBlue’s daily flights at Miami International Airport. The agreement also includes JetBlue's charter operations from Miami to Punta Cana, which began in early June.
Swissport continues to expand its airport lounge business with the acquisition of No1 Lounges in the UK, in a joint-venture structure with Airport Dimensions. With the addition of nine new lounges Swissport grows its global lounge network to 54 facilities.
Swissport has renewed and expanded several key airline partnerships in Asia. A contract with Air France, KLM and Air Calin has been renewed for Tokyo Narita and expanded to include Tokyo Haneda in Japan, and Seoul Incheon, South Korea. In South Korea, Swissport has also extended its long-term partnerships with Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific and FedEx Express Korea.
Swissport continues to expand its lounge business in the Asia-Pacific region. With the acquisition of No1 Lounges, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane will join the global network of Aspire Airport Lounges. In addition, lounges are under construction at Perth Airport.
As part of a new commercial structure, Swissport has redesigned its market setup and appointed new regional managers for Switzerland, Germany and Austria, Continental Europe, and Middle East & Africa. The new leaders report directly to the President & CEO.
Swissport and easyJet have signed a new 5-year contract covering airport ground services at easyJet’s hub at Berlin Brandenburg International Airport. In addition, the British carrier renewed its contracts with Swissport in Basel and Geneva until 2025. In 2020, the two companies worked together at some 20 airports across Europe.
Swissport has won the prestigious Air Cargo Handling Agent of the Year 2021 award issued by Air Cargo Week. The distinction, based on criteria such as investments in people and technology, service standards, quality and scope of service, confirms Swissport’s position as a reliable partner and global leader in air cargo handling.
Warwick Brady will formally join Swissport on 1 May 2021 as President & CEO, one month earlier than originally communicated. He will succeed Christoph Mueller, who has been acting as interim President & CEO since 1 January 2021.
After 23 very successful years, Glenn Rutherford, Swissport Executive Vice President for Asia-Pacific, has decided to depart the company at the end of 2021. Brad Moore will join Swissport from Qatar Airways as new Managing Director for the Australasia region.
